Jill Christ

With Jill’s recent 3:04 at the Long Beach Marathon, she has quickly become one of the top female marathoners in this area. Forty-seven years from now you will probably be reading about Jill Christ in the program for the Santa Barbara International Marathon, as she will be participating in the race for the 50th year in a row. Look for Jill and her husband Doug (aka “Lois Lane and Superman”) as they tend to cover a great deal of ground along the coasts of Goleta and Santa Barbara.

Favorite Spectator Sport: Volleyball (beach and indoor). I love Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor
Car I’d Love to be Driving: I’d prefer to be driven… in a Duesenberg
My friends describe me as: “Sweet” and “small but mighty”
My trademark expression is: “Tell me more about that”… I’m a researcher, and I’m constantly asking customers to elaborate on their feedback
If money were not a consideration, I would love to: Spend 6 months abroad with my husband Doug traveling around Europe, buy a vacation house for my parents in Santa Barbara, travel to Tokyo twice a year to visit my 9 and 10 year old cousins, spend more time with my brother Paul, and see every improv show he performs in
In the next 5 years, I hope to: Start a family
In the next 10 years, I hope to: Still be running strong
Personal accomplishments: 2nd place in the 2012 Long Beach Marathon, co-speaker at SXSW Interactive, graduated with distinction from UCLA’s Masters Program in Information Science (library school)
Personal fact that will surprise my friends: I played the role of Annie in Annie the musical when I was 9 years old. I could belt “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow” like nobody’s business. 🙂
Favorite Running Shoes: Adidas Adios
Favorite Distance and PR (post collegiate): Marathon 3:04
Best Race and Why: Long Beach Marathon 2012, big PR in my hometown
Worst Race and Why: Carpinteria All Comers Track Meet 5K. Ran alone, fell into a rut, did not PR
Average Weekly Mileage (last 12 months): 60 miles
Favorite Local Race: Santa Barbara International Marathon. This race is incredibly special. Beautiful course, fantastic race directors, wonderful volunteer support… I’ve run it every year since it started in 2009, either racing or as a pacer, and I absolutely love it
Most Memorable Running Experience: State Street Mile 2012. Got my butt kicked running with the elite women, but was so much fun, and very fast!

Lifetime Running Goals: Put my best self on every starting line… this means eating well, recovering, getting enough sleep, doing core work, and being mentally prepared to kick butt 🙂
Local Running Heroes & Why: Doug Christ, because he’s my Superman. Joy Moats and Andrea McLarty, because these women work hard, dig deep, and inspire me to keep doing my best. Rusty Snow, because he sees more in his runners than they see in themselves
Personal Training Tips: Enjoy yourself, push yourself to your edge, do your best to “become all you’re capable of becoming” – John Wooden
Why I Run: For the camaraderie — runners are funny, happy, quirky, energetic people. I love being around such positive, welcoming, supportive people, and working together to chase our dreams. Also I run for good health, fitness, and overall well being
I love runners who: Lift each other up
I don’t care for runners who: Drag others down
Suggestions for Local Races: Drag others down
Suggestions for SBAA: : No suggestions! just a huge thank you!
My views on: Consistency: Life is too short, make the most of every day. And when dealing with life’s challenges, always remember: “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” Dodgeball
Favorite Quote: “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.” John Wooden
