BUELLTON, Calif. – (July 19, 2018) – The 4th running of the Vintners 5 Miler plus 1 Mile Wine Walk is slated for Saturday, July 28 and again hosted at the world-famous Sanford Winery traversing the Rinconada and Sanford & Benedict Vineyards. This unique off-road running event, presented by the Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation, will begin at 9:00am in front of the winery and offer a 5 mile or 1 mile course suitable for runners and walkers of all age & abilities. The mixed terrain 5 mile course includes a 350 ft. ascent to a spectacular overlook with a commanding view of the Sta. Rita Hills.

The annual community event also has a silent auction, and Santa Barbara Vintners Association members will donate wine and local businesses will offer lifestyle & athletic themed items. The proceeds from this year’s event will support the Santa Ynez Valley Community Aquatics Foundation. The local foundation’s mission is to provide a thriving Community Aquatics Complex to serve the entire community, with a focus on creating programming that closes the gap for underserved residents.

“We are thrilled to be back at Sanford for a fourth year,” said president of the Vintners Foundation, Elaina Kroll. “This event highlights the importance of a healthy lifestyle by combining multiple elements that contribute to good health: exercise and wine.”

Finishers will receive a commemorative wine glass (21 & older) along with their wine-themed collectible medal and event t-shirt. In addition to the run/walk, participants will enjoy a world class Finish Line Festival to celebrate the upcoming 2018 harvest with wine tasting, food provided by notable local food purveyors including Bella Vista at the Four Seasons Resort, live music and a family-friendly kid’s zone.

Last year, Ricky Ho of Santa Barbara and Mary Jones of Ventura won the Vintners 5 Miler, running 30 minutes, 50 seconds and 34:24, respectively. Ho also won the inaugural event in 2015. The top team was the Jay Kays (Craig Prater, Elizabeth Smith, Lisa Dosch, Stuart Sato and Erica Bjorndahl), who collectively averaged 38:21.

Overall, the third edition drew 334 entrants with 261 official finishers in the 5 Mile and 1 Mile Wine Walk. The Santa Barbara Athletic Association selected the Vintners 5 Miler as its 2017 event of the year, and the 5 Miler is again a SBAA Grand Prix scoring event.

The Vintners 5 Miler was conceived by Sanford Winery’s Winemaker & General Manager, Steve Fennell, who dreamed of hosting a community inspired event in the beautiful Sta. Rita Hills to benefit the Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation.

Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome, and registration for the 4th edition, including the Finish Line Festival-only, is available at: sbvintersrun.com
